Book summary: Shaped by God’s Heart is the result of the authors observations of churches well on their way being missional churches. This book attempts to portray what a missional church looks like. The author does not create or suggest a model or models for churches or their leaders should they seek to emulate them.
I long for you to experience the depth of joy known only to those who abandon everything in pursuit of God and His purpose. My purpose in writing Shaped by God’s Heart is to touch a place deep within you, a place marked by profound desire to experience God in a most personal way intended for His Body, the Church. Milfred Minatrea – Author.
The book is divided into three parts: 1) The Church in a New and Changing World, 2) The Nine Essential Practices of Missional Churches, 3) Structures and Strategies for Becoming Missional.
Overall I would give this book a B+. Great observations, awesome challenges and wonderfully thought provoking questions at the end of each chapter. The reader must decide whether following along this path is worth the work, hardship, struggle and loss that would come as a result of heading in a missional direction. You as a leader may be ready and willing to go down that path but is your church? They could not turn the Titanic quickly, this would be a long process depending on the size of your church.
